Net Neutrality

MAY 18th, FCC will be holding an Open Commission Meeting to discuss Net Neutrality

Over two years ago, I have tried to drum up some serious acknowledgement to the issue of net neutrality.

netneutrality

net neu·tral·i·ty

noun

the principle that Internet service providers should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favoring or blocking particular products or websites.

To be clear, net neutrality is a GOOD thing. You want net neutrality.

Now why is this a big deal? Well, imagine Comcast, Verizon, Cox, RCN etc., any ISP (Internet Service Provider) will have the control to limit what you are allowed to view on the 'open free internet'. You know how sometimes you don't have the option to select anything BUT Comcast in your area? You would only have access to what Comcast wanted you to have access to. This is a very simple explanation of a much larger and complex issue.

Timeline of Net Neutrality:

Let's take at look at what has happened with this issue overtime:

John Oliver does a nice concise wrap up about what is happening NOW that we have Ajit Pai, the Chairman of the U.S. FCC. Tell him that you specifically support strong net neutrality that's the Title II oversight of ISPs and classification.

Equal access to online information is once again under serious threat. John Oliver encourages internet commenters to voice their displeasure to the FCC by visiting www.gofccyourself.com and clicking "express" to file your comment. Connect with Last Week Tonight online...
